Welcome from Our District Bishop

I give the glory to Jesus Christ our Lord and continue to tell of his wonderful love, grace and mercy towards us. On behalf of Lady Genevieve, Dr Davis, the District Pastors / Lead Officers and Saints I welcome our Presiding Bishop & First Lady, visiting Bishops, Saints and visitors to our District 7 Holy Convocation.

In particular, I also want to acknowledge the ministry work of our District Mother, the Pastors, Lead Officers (in charge), Officers in general and saints in District 7 for your dedication and faithful service towards the church of our Lord Jesus Christ. Please hold onto the fact that the word of God gives us the assurance that our “….labour is not in vain in the Lord”. (I Cor.15:58).

One of the notable features across the churches in District 7 over the past year is that the Lord has added souls to the church and we have enjoyed a number of water baptisms with some new believers receiving the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. I give God thanks because He has kept his promise that if “… I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me…”(John 12:32).

I thank God for blessing us to see another District 7 convocation. The Lord has hitherto helped us to overcome our challenges and remain steadfast in the face of adversity.

Our convocation calls us to reflect upon the significance of the mercies of God in each of our lives. In order to avoid taking God for granted, it is very important that we never forget the sins that God has delivered us from (II Peter 1:9).

The Bible highlights how Israel were to remember how God brought them out of Egyptian bondage and guided them through the wilderness (Deut.8:3). In like manner the church must remember how God in His mercy and love has delivered us from the power of sin and death.

Let us keep in mind that none of us deserved God’s mercies, yet He applied his mercies to our lives. During this convocation we will be taking a journey down memory lane by revisiting our apostolic heritage i,e., where we are coming from; our place in Christ and where He will ultimately lead us.

As we worship God, listen carefully to the preaching and teaching; I pray that God will be glorified, the church will be edified and souls will be saved for his Kingdom.

To God be the glory great things He has done!

God bless you

Theme Preamble - "The Mercies of God"

Our District 7 Convocation theme calls us to contemplate a well-known subject that we can all relate to i.e., ‘the mercies of God’. It is very important that we spend quality time to reflect upon what God’s mercy means as it relates to our personal experience.

Every human being needs God’s mercy, which is defined as pity, compassion to feel sympathy but in a nutshell, it is the bestowal of undeserving loving kindness or forgiveness to those who don’t deserve it.

The words grace and mercy are closely connected. The German scholar Bengel differentiated grace and mercy in the following manner “Grace takes away the guilt and mercy takes away the misery”.

The Bible decares “…all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; ...” (Rom.3:23). Therefore, we all need God’s forgiveness in order to be reconciled with Him. In the Old Testament the Mercy Seat (place of propitiation) which was the lid of the Ark was the place where sins were covered once a year. However, God’s mercy in the Old Testament pointed to Christ who would be the once and for all sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 10:10,14; I Peter 3:18).

Knowing and experiencing the mercies of God should inspire praise and worship of God and drive our spiritual ambition to give the best of our service to God.

The very thought of God’s mercy and compassion towards us should be the catalyst for worshipping God in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24) and expressing our gratitude to Him 24 / 7.

We have experienced God’s mercy in many ways e.g., by the fact the he has led us into his truth and thereby his liberty. The statisticians tell us that there are over 4000 religions in the world, but God has mercifully led us into the right religion (John 8:32; James 1:27).

During this convocation we will be going down ‘memory lane’ with an historical review of the Apostolic church and yet again this is a reflection of the mercies of God towards us.

We will ruminate on what God’s word teaches us about His mercy in order to understand how the church was established, grew and spread across the world. In addition, we will explore the key part that the mercies of God played in bringing us all to this point and place of blessing in the church.

During this convocation it is my hope that we gain a greater appreciation about what the mercy’s of God means to us from a personal point of view and that this will inspire even greater dedication to the service of the Lord.

Focus questions for consideration:

1) What does the mercies of God mean to you?

2) How important is God’s forgiveness when it comes to our salvation?

3) Discuss with examples how receiving God’s mercy should shape and influence our worship and praise life.

Parking Restrictions

Bethel Church Bristol continues to work hard to maintain healthy relationships with our neighbours and want to ensure that you and your family are safe when you visit us over the weekend.

We are situated in a built up residential area and we encourage everyone to be thoughtful to our neighbours when you select locations to park.

We respectfully ask that you do not park on pavements if possible, and do not block the path of those who may need to enter and exit their homes, for pedestrians who may have physical challenges, for children and their parents who may need to walk out into the road in order to get around your vehicle and other road users who may not be able to safely navigate and have clear sight of the road.  We encourage you to adhere to the parking guidance on the road signs around Bethel Church when parking on the yellow lines.

Lastly, please avoid parking outside of the Co-Op opposite Bethel Church Bristol as it hinders their ability to conduct business operations.

*It is likely that traffic wardens will be in the area during the weekend and we will do our best to alert you to this if this information comes to light.

If you do need any assistance with parking, please let us know and we will do our best to advise.
