Statement of Faith

We believe there is one God, Creator of all, whose name is Jesus; that entrance into His Kingdom is through repentance of sin and water baptism by immersion in Jesus Name sanctioned by the reception of the gift of the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance.

DECLARATION OF WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God, written by holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:21). We accept the Bible as God’s inspired revelation.  We are committed to the goal of teaching the Bible and allowing its eternal principles to continually move us closer to the centre of God’s will for our lives.

We believe in the Virgin Birth.  Jesus was born both human and divine; He was God manifested in the flesh.  (Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; I Timothy 3:16)

We believe the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ that constitutes the core of the Gospel that all people need to hear.  Jesus, the Son of God, suffered the penalty of sin for all us when He died on the cross.  Though He died, He did not stay dead.  He was resurrected, confirming that death is not the end!

We believe that He ascended into heaven and has sent His spirit, the Holy Spirit, which was poured out at Jerusalem over 2000 years ago, and it is the same Spirit that fills the hearts of those who seek Him today. (Acts 2:4; 2:22-24; I Cor. 15:20)

We believe that our salvation is by God’s grace through our faith in the Lord Jesus (Ephesians 2:8).  As sinners, we deserve punishment because of our sins.  However, by grace, we received mercy from God as we looked dependently and trustingly at the saving work of Jesus at the cross.  This is the “Good News” message known as “The Gospel.”

We believe in a holy, sanctified life.  We believe in divine healing, communion, and feet washing.

We believe in the glorious catching away (The Rapture) of the saints when Jesus returns to take His people to Heaven.  (1 Peter 1:16; Matthew 5:48; 2 Cor. 7:1; I Thess. 4:16; Mark 16:17-18).

Biblically, it is our understanding that authentic faith in Jesus expresses itself in repentance, baptism in Jesus’ name, and the in-filling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).  Repentance is a sincere acknowledgement that God’s judgment against sin is just, and immersion in water (baptism) is the way for sinners to affirm our faith in the sufficiency of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, and to accept the forgiveness He offers.

Though we are not saved “by works,” we believe that we are saved “for works.”  We strongly encourage every member to find fulfillment in love and service to others.  We deeply believe that it is in loving that one becomes like God.

Bethel Church is a fellowship of believers bound together by mutual faith in Jesus Christ and genuine love for one another.  We consider every member a “minister” of Christ and and as such they are encouraged to identify, develop and use his or her spiritual gifts and talents to the glory of God.
